T-shirt Printing With Your Label Sewn Or Printed? All You Need To Know About Relabelling

Relabelled garments are something we see on an almost daily basis, or at least every time you pop into a retail store. If you are a clothing brand, and looking to resell bulk printed garments this is certainly a topic you should know about, or if not you need to take a serious look into it.

Relabelling a garment, or replacing the label with a print, allows you to take a product from a wholesale company, and sell it as your own product. So instead of selling, for example, a Gildan garment, you replace the Gildan label with your own branded label. Obviously, there are certain limitations with this process, but these are easily explained.

Some brands have even started to offer tear-away labels on their garments, which allows for a clean tear away of the branded label, which leaves a very clean finish, and is cheaper than cutting out the label, as it takes less time.

Legal Requirements That Must Be Included

The best starting point is to make sure the manufacturer of the garment you are looking to relabel allows for the option of clients relabelling their product. Thankfully a lot of brands do and are actively promoting this, but we recommend always checking first. If you have any doubts get in touch and our friendly team of experts will be more than happy to help.

When replacing a label, it is vital you take note of what is printed on the label that you have removed. Legally, you must include the care instructions and the country in which the garment was manufactured.

When selling your product in an EU or UK country, the information on the personalised labels for clothes must be in the official language of the place where it is being sold. All countries that are members of the EU and UK comply with the regulations listed, and may also have their own regulations.

The safest way to play this is to replicate all the information from the label you have removed, and if you have any doubts at all, contact the manufacturer.

Relabelling someone else’s brand is not legal, and is a sure-fire way to get you a massive fine and closed down!

Sizing Label

The size of the garment obviously has to be on the garment, and that can either be on the label you design, or you can stitch in a size label at the side of the sewn-in label, or just above a printed label. Some manufacturers, such as Continental Clothing, include the size tab in some of their garments, which is a godsend for someone looking to rebrand.

Printing the label makes sizing very easy to handle. If you place an order which has 100 small, 100 medium, and 100 large t shirts for example when we are printing the small garments, we tape over the medium and large text on the screens, so these sizes are not printed onto the garment. When printing the medium sizes, we tape over small and large (you get the drift)

Hem Tags

The hem tag has burst onto the branded t-shirt printing scene, and now seems to be the must have item. In the unlikely event that you have not heard of these, you will have certainly seen them, as they grow in popularity by the month.

They are a label which are folded on the hemline of the garment, most commonly t-shirts and add a simple, yet elegant finish to your garment. These are most commonly found on the sleeve, or the bottom left of the seam on the front of the garment.

Swing Tags

Swing tags are the icing on top of the branded t shirt cake. They can be made from various materials, branded to your liking, and kimbled on to the garment, allowing for a truly professional finish, and allow for a real retail finish to your product.
