How Custom Pin Badges Are Made
Pin badges are made to order from your design rather than printed onto a stock product, and the process depends on the type of badge.
Die Striking
Your design is cut into a die and stamped into the metal to create the raised lines and recessed areas that hold the enamel on soft and hard enamel badges.
Enamel Filling
Each colour is filled into the recessed areas by hand and baked, then left slightly recessed for soft enamel or polished flat for hard enamel.
Printing and Epoxy
For printed badges, the design is printed in full colour onto the metal and sealed with a clear epoxy dome to protect it.
Plating and Fittings
Choose gold, silver, nickel or black metal plating, and a butterfly clutch, rubber clutch, safety pin or magnetic fitting on the back.

What Affects the Price of Custom Pin Badges
Every badge order is priced individually, and a few things make the biggest difference:
- The type of badge. Button badges cost the least, soft enamel sits in the middle and hard enamel is the premium option.
- Size and colours. Larger badges and designs with more enamel colours cost more to make.
- The quantity. Because each design needs its own die, the price per badge falls sharply as the order grows.
- Finishes and packaging. Special plating, glitter or glow in the dark enamel, and printed backing cards add to the cost.
Vector artwork (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) gives the sharpest result, but a good quality PNG or JPG is fine to start with, and we will tell you if anything needs adjusting before your free visual proof is sent. We will turn your logo into a badge design and show it to you before anything is made.
